But what happened last week was nothing short of a miracle.

John and Yvonne Peach, owners and operators of the historic Coronado Motor Hotel, have offered to house the entire Arizona Strikers FC squad this summer—free of charge!

Yvonne describes her husband, John as a “sports kind of guy”—the couple have been sponsoring local youth athletics for the past 15 years. But when John heard about a women’s soccer team making it’s headquarters in Yuma, he really got excited.

A man who has traveled the world, John never could understand why the USA was so far behind the rest of the world in it’s appreciation of the “beautiful game.” In 2014 during the men’s World Cup in Brazil, he received a phone call from a group of German tourists that were crossing the United States and were going to be in Yuma the day that Germany played Argentina for the championship. The German tourists wanted to know if the Coronado Hotel and its adjoining Sports Bar could handle a large group of boisterous German soccer fanatics. Well, the Germans loved the Coronado and the Sports Bar (especially since Germany won the match), and John and Yvonne loved the enthusiastic atmosphere the Germans created in Yuma.

The Coronado Motor Hotel is a sprawling, Spanish style, 127 room complex, only a few blocks from the Colorado River. Built by John’s parents in 1938, it is touted as the oldest motel in Arizona. With it’s lush vegetation and ubiquitous bougainvillea, the Arizona Strikers FC players feel privileged to call the historic Coronado Motor Hotel their 2015 headquarters.

Leilani Skinner, a 21 year old midfielder from Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, currently playing for California State University Bakersfield, will once again wear the jersey of the Arizona Strikers beginning this summer.

An All Conference midfielder from Sahuaro High School (Tucson), Leilani’s club soccer career began with one of our Arizona youth soccer partners AZ Champions FC and concluded playing two years with the Arizona Rush program.

Leilani started all 19 games, playing 1,642 minutes as a junior for the CSUB Roadrunners. She will return to play as a 5th year senior, having redshirted this past season due to a bone fracture.

Due to university commitments, Leilani joined the Arizona Strikers halfway through the 2014 season, playing in 6 games of the 11 game season, scoring one goal while playing 500 minutes.
